Mandy Perkins opened the closed door to Paul West’s office, entered without being invited, and told West that there was distraught woman in the outer office demanding to see him immediately.

She had just come from seeing her husband in the penitentiary and he had told her it would be her last visit because he was going to kill himself.

When West heard his name it all came back to him. Before being shot and having to retire as an Inspector he had arrested the man for First Degree Murder and he was sentenced to the mandatory twenty-five years without being able to apply for parole. He had fifteen years left to serve.

The woman didn’t mince words. “Paul West you put him in there now Paul West get him out, because he didn’t commit that murder and I know who did.”

What was to follow was the most difficult and personally involved case West had ever taken on.
